NOIDS

No ID

A name given to an iris when it's registered name is unknown.

How many named irises are there?

Why is it a NOID?

Did you know that Iris Wiki has over 80,000 fact sheets of named irises?

I was in shock when I first spent time on the Iris Wiki sight and I now use it all of the time.  It is the American Iris Societies Iris Encyclopedia and the information is endless.

"Don't judge a book by it's cover" goes for irises too, "Don't determine an iris by a picture"

Iris Wiki has also taught me that if you don't know an irises name for sure, then there is a good chance you won't be able to figure it out, even with over 300,000 pictures on the site.  Why?  For starters, AI but won't go there.  Cameras through the years have changed and so have the colors of their pictures. The lighting can make a huge a difference and the list goes on

So why being sold as a NOID?

1) Received it as a NOID

2) Iris bloom was not as described when purchased

3) Name for it was misplaced, lost, etc.

4) Over abundance of a named iris sold at a lower price

*I have had a love for irises for 25 years.  Through the years, I bought irises that I thought were beautiful and didn't keep the names and to be honest, who knows if they bloomed correctly.  In 2018, when we purchased a pet boarding facility, I took over 1,000 rhizomes with me but since it was already in operational and I was the one running it, my rhizomes spent a winter in laundry tubs in a room in a metal building.  All of them and my irises I purchased the first year after we moved here were planted by some college students that were nice enough to "remove the tags" for me.

Since then, I've left tags on, done mapping, etc. but even with that, there is still irises in the garden that aren't the ones that you purchased.  Sometimes it's a mistake, that can easily happen to anyone.  It should rarely happen but often it is because irises aren't verified, people guess, or some just don't care.

My priority is named irises sold to be verified and pictures documented of the cultivator in Airtable.  Those that aren't verified are going into various NOID bags.

Also, I have tons that I've grown trying to find a few I lost or just love to multiply that will be in these NOID bags.

Examples of some named that may be in a bag:  Society Lady, Immortality, Standing Proud, Autumn Tryst, Slovak Prince, Abiqua Falls, and the list goes on.
